Mailing List

The main Climbing Club mailing list is primarily used as a means of communicating between the members (and also non-members) of the club. This list is called "climbers" and it's address is climbers@maths.tcd.ie. Absolutely anyone can join, although it is primarily a resource for the members of the Climbing Club. This is one of the most reliable sources of information in the Climbing Club. All official events will be posted to this list as soon as they are known. What basically happens is that if an email is sent to the mailing list address, it is redistributed automatically to all the people subscribed to the list.

Additionally, we have a list called climbers-chat@maths.tcd.ie, which is used for more "frivolous" emails, and also for quick emails when people are organising a small group to go out climbing, which may not be of interest to all of the members of the club.

List Details

System

We use a program called Mailman to run our lists. This system requires you to have a password for accessing details about your mailing list subscriptions.

For those of you who joined at the start of the year, you will have received an automatically generated password; if you subscribe by hand however, you'll get to pick a password of your own choosing.

Either way, you will receive an automatic reminder email once a month, containing your password, and details about how to use it.

Subscribing

Subscribing to either list is relatively simple.

Whichever list you choose to join, you'll need enter your email address, and a password of your choice in the "Subscribing to" section on the page you visit.

This is a fully automated procedure, so if you have any problems, please email climbers-admin@maths.tcd.ie.

Unsubscribing

To unsubscribe from either list

Whichever list you choose to unsubscribe from
1. Go to the very bottom of the page you visit, and then enter your email address in the box to the left of the "Edit Options" button; then click on the "Edit Options" button.
2. In the section at the top left marked "Unsubscribing from...", type in your password, and press "Unsubscribe"
3. If you don't know your password, click on the "Email My Password To Me" button below.

Once again, this is a fully automated procedure, so if you have any problems, please email climbers-admin@maths.tcd.ie.

Using the lists

To email the group, send an email to climbers@maths.tcd.ie and your message will be redistributed to all those subscribed on the list.
